Default Need help picking my first MD

Hello all:

I wanted to buy a cheap MD to start with, and as I get use to detecting, upgrade then. I saw on ebay a BOUNTY HUNTER SCOUT. Cheap yes, but i noticed that it just has 2 dials and nothing more. The other one I found was a BOUNTY HUNTER DISCOVERY 1100. It is a few dollars more, but since I am new to this, I am not sure what one is better or even if these two shouls be what I start with.

Any opinions or ideas would be welcome.

Thanks

Dave

Default Detector

DAVE, I rec. the ACE250...GREAT INSTRUMENT and a Great Price. You would not go wrong as getting this detector as a starting detector...I'm kind of partial to mine...LOL...I have been detecting for over 50 years and I enjoy the ACE250 more than any other detector that I have owned...

Default hello mustangdaver

welcome aboard and i do have the discovery 3300 from radio shack...it is about 3 bills, and if i had to do it again i think i would have to start with an ace 250, seems like all i hear is good things about it and it does good on coins, easy to operate for about 2 bills...but the reason for the 3300 is monthly payments of about $15 to $20.00 a month... if i had the money i would get the best a white.... Good luck on what you decide....

The Ace 250 is a real good machine. I don't own one but a couple of my hunting buddies have it and just love it.
It all depends on how much your budget will permit.

If you choose the 250 and later find out you don't care for the hobby you aren't out a lot of money.
If you find that you do enjoy the hobby then you can always upgrade.
By that time you will have a better understanding of metal detecting & which brand of machine you would prefer.

Most likely @ that time you would probably keep the 250 for a backup.

If you contact the great sponsors on TQ I am sure they will help you in your decision

Dave,

Welcome to the TQ family!!!

I asked that same question when I first got into this hobby, and I got the same response that you have got here. So, I bought and Ace 250 and I must say, I'm glad I did. It is a great machine for the $$.

I dont have the 250 but if these guys say its the one to get then go for it you will be happy, just make sure it has a depth gauge. I agree, keep the MD light for now because if you stick with the hobby you will be upgrading for sure.

Besides I recommend a few other nick nacks to go with your new MD, you will need digging tools and I strongly recommend a pinpointer to make life easier and MD more enjoyable from the start.
