Ask the police if you can detect at Ladd stadium. The boat launch areas of Dog River.Dead Lake Marina area in Creola(understand that Buudy Long has now sold that land to the state),just down from the marina,by boat, are some indian mounds about 75' from the bayou on the north side. And you have the fairgrounds in Mobile and lots of 'old' schools.Goodluck, and don't forget Dauphin Island!

Thank you for the warm welcome! I'm not staying in Alabama anymore, but I'm back to Florida. Any good detecting spots in north central Fla?

There aren't any good spots in Florida at all.
There are just to many retired northerners living there and they don't drop anything.

I am sure you will find your honey hole down there in the sunshine somewhere.
Good luck

I got out with my X-30 to a local park/beach, checked the volley ball area, found lots of pull tabs, and bottle caps, but not a single coin. At least I know what the aluminum trash registers! I'm going to try some local playgrounds, and parks this week. The more familiar I get with the detector, the better I'm getting with it. I highly recommend the Minelab detectors, they are a cut above the rest.
