Default New Member Saying Hello & Questions on Detectors

Hi Everyone,

I just joined the forum today. I had a detector has a child many years ago. I have wanted to purchase one for sometime but never got around to it.

I am ready to get into this hobby. I have looked at many detectors online but would like your expert advice on a couple of models.

I am looking at a Garrett
ACE 250 PRO

and a MineLab MPX Pro or Digital
MINELAB MPX PRO

Should I consider other models? Whites?

I want to stay under $300.00 for a dectector. I would rather spend the money and buy something good than trying to start out on the cheap. I know myself I will end up selling a cheap-o on eBay then buying something better.

I know prices can run up over $4000+ but hey that is too much of price for a hobby. I am sure there are other threads regarding what to buy. What would "you" recommend for something in under $300 that would be fun to use, accurate, and be satisfying as a hobby purchase?

I look forward to speaking with the folks here online.

Regards,
Patrick

Hello Patrick and welcome to the forum ... I'm partial to Garretts (but that's just my humble opinion). I hope you make a purchase soon and will be watching for a post of your first find!

Welcome to Treasure Quest Patrick.
Check with our sponsors here as some are offering discounts on detector purchases and give you advice on a detector that fits your needs.

Welcome to TQ. Alot of people on here feel the Ace 250 is a good entry level detector. Easy to use and alot of features for the money. However the type of hunting you are going to do (relic, beach, parks, gold, etc) and your soil conditions can make a big difference. Gregory is right - check with the sponsors here and they will be willing to help you find the detector that fits your needs. Which ever detector you purchase have fun and enjoy it. JoAnne

Patrick,
First off, I would steer clear of the MPX.... as far as I know, Minelab never made an MPX detector. The MPX's that I know of are Chinese made and low quality.
If you are on a budget, I have heard nothing but good things about the Ace 250.
Good Luck

Most of todays machines are good for just about anything,, coin shooting to relics , to nugget hunting.

I have a few friends who use the Ace 250 with great success,, I also have friends who use the whites entry level machines and do just as well,, even the bounty Hunters are good machines,, the secret is time in the field with whatever machine you choose .

If the sponsors here have discounts or specials I suggest that you utilize that option !!

Whatever machine you end up with ,, welcome to the Hobby and always fill your holes !!

HH

Welcome to the forum. There is no such thing as a MINELAB MPX. The MPX is a chinese knockoff. If you can go to 340.00 you can get a Tesoro Cibola which is better performance wise than an Ace250 but does not have target ID. Either way you cannot go wrong. If you need help with your purchase i would be glad to assist you. Give me a call.
