Default New to MD'ing and to MA

Greetings;

My husband and I recently emigrated from Northern California to Metro-West Boston last month. We are very excited about learning more about New England's local history and I thought MD'ing a great way to be both interactive and have some fun while we're at it!

I feel a little overwhelmed with the amount of info on this site alone but you're posts have been very informative so far so I'll try not to bore you with my many questions and keep my post to a minimum the first time.

Looks like the ACE 250 is a great MD to start with, anyone belong to MD clubs in the Boston/Metro West area they can suggest to newbies too?

Now seems to be a good time to do some research about the area or just Treasure hunting, MD'ing, or mineral hunting, any website or books you could suggest? Someone suggested Shadow of the Sentinel and I went to the Harvard Bookstore to find it but it was out of print, I could go on Amazon to get it but would like some feeback before I purchase it.

Thanks to you in advance-
Janice D.

Welcome to TQ, Janice:

The Ace 250 can serve you very well as your first, and maybe only detector, with all of it's features and abilities. Many of us upgrade after awhile, but few ever part with their Ace. I upgraded and still use my 250 the most

Best of luck, particularly with mastering the New England brogue

Like Oldtrooper said.

"Yes, you are right this is a GREAT forum. There are so many experts here and they will answer your questions".

If no one has the answer right away to any question, sooner or later someone will get the answer and post it.

Red face thanks

Thanks everyone!

Once I get my MD, where do I start? Do they have special obstile courses with bumpers on the coil for newbies, hahaha!

A good place I was told to start was to join a club. Went to a Treasure Hunting Club mtg last night, very interesting talk-in Wareham but it took us over an hour to get there and didn't get home until almost 11:00pm so we'll keep looking for more local clubs/meetups closer to the Boston area I think. Us youngins working 8-5 need our beauty sleep.

Anyone out there go treasure hunting on a local beach? Do you have to contact the state government to get permission first?

Thanks!
Janice.
