Default Newby in Illinois

Hello everyone. My name is Tim and I live in extreme So. Illinois, About 7 miles north of Metropolis. Yes, the home of Superman. I got my first detector right after Christmas as part of a safety award program at work. So far, I've gotten pretty good at finding aluminum cans and pop tops. Heck, I've even found a large piece of concrete with a piece of pipe in the center. Now, that took real talent :-) My wife has said no more digging in the backyard so I guess I'll have to move to the front yard. Really, it's been kinda cold and I work really strange hours, so I've not had much time to play with it. It is a Bounty Hunter Sharp Shooter Ultra Mag. I have several old home sights and Civil War sites? that I want to try out. I'm looking forward to that first real find so I can tell my sweet loving wife "na,na,na! I told you it would work". I've lurked on here since late January and love all the info thats available.
Thanks all of you

Tim aka bigtantor

Default Welcome!!

Glad to see you participating in the forum I'm from Paducah, KY originally and now live in southern CA. I can't seem to get away from the south!!
I'm going to be home in May and plan to do a bunch of hunting while I'm there. My brother-in-law is going to check out an area along the Ohio that used to be a settlement, but is all wooded over.
Keep us all posted on your finds from those sites you mentioned. I would love to hear about finds from so close to home.
Take care!!

Howdy bigtantor
Once you get done in the front yard, you should be pretty familiar with the machine.
Then head for the C.W. site & the old home sites.
When you bring home a valuable relic then you just might have to get the wife a machine.
Good Luck and let us know how you do.

Welcome and good luck You will be addicted to digging in no time. When you find your first ring that fits your wife, she won't let you stop digging.
