Welcome to the forum and the family. I would go with either the Ace250 or the Tesoro Cibola to start out . Both are great detectors to start your hobby with . The ACE 250 has worked out very well for me over the last month. It is very user friendly and one can pick it up and get going (although I don't recommend it). Kellyco does have alot of freebies, but the headphones are junk and I broke the digger after fifteen minutes. Good luck with your decision!

welcome monsterred!! I'll tell you this, it doesn't take an expensive detector to find the good stuff. The one I use cost me $250 after rebate. And I've done very well with it. I started using a friends $1000 dollar unit last month, haven't found the first silver. Now I know my old machine better of course. But you can do well with any detector you purchase. The detector doesn't matter as much as your research and practice. Start out with something affordable and work up. The Ace 250, Whites Prizm series, Bounty hunter, Torso, Minelab, all make good detectors for beginners. I don't use one myself, but I see alot of people here use the Ace 250 and do very well.
