Default hi from ga. soil too mineral rich.

I just got a basic garrett 250 and I am working at it. Our soil is very mineral rich and I keep getting hits that say silver dollar and I dig for 30 mins. and then there is nothing there. At least I am losing weight and building good muscles. Maybe I will find real silver soon.

julieburger,

I have highly mineralized soil as well, I have to run at about 50% sensitivity or I get a ton of false signals. From what I have read the 250 is agreat machine. Try lowering the sensitivity and just dig repeatable signals that sound in both directions (xing target), until you feel more confident in what the machine is telling you.

Happy Hunting!

Default welcome

the machines that auto ground balance can be difficult in mineral rich dirt.... my prizm 3 used to give me a hard time on the salt water beach or in heavy iron (red clay). turn your sensitivity down and that should help. good luck and with a great attitude like yours you will be diggin the good finds in no time.

Welcome to TQ! Don't give up. Things will come. You have a good machine and once you have it fine tuned, it won't fail you!

Default thought I found coin

I thought I finally had a coin today. My dad took my out to an old creek where his family used to camp I got a reading that said $1 so I dug for a while and found nothing and then I rescanned and the signal went away. This happens alot in the red clay because of the iron but not usually in the rest of the soil but this was the second $1 reading that did this.
