Default Howdy from the Central Coast of CA

Since I have been lurking for two days on this site (Didn't know of it) I just wanted to join and to say howdy to you all.

Everyone here, who's posts I have read, seem to be real, honest, and caring folks. (and passionate about metal detecting!)

I just happened to find my dectector in my garage, which had been stored for 15 or so years! My purchase receipt said I had bought it in 1986! $356.00 A White's 4900/D Pro

Man, I just had to check it out...rechargable battery...dead. Bought new C batteries...BEEP! Ok, this is good. The next try...nutin'...nutin'...BEEP! Hmmm...ok, ok, the beach is only 5 mi away...nutin'...man...ok go back home. Today...BEEP! Good. A better beach is 19 mi. away. Get there...nutin'...nutin'...go back home.

So I check out White's website and MAN...there are some cool new detectors now! Although a little more money than in 1986!

Anyway, now I am seriously lookin' at a M6 or a MXT. Ahh...that feels better. Thanks for the time............

After I read my own post I realized it was not reading right. Anyway the "BEEP" meant the machine would turn on. The "Nutin'" meant it would not.

I just got thru using some steel wool on all the conections and......BEEP"!

Thanks to Tinman & liv2dig for their posts...

Welcome to TQ!!! I'm also in CA, but the southern portion. I sure hope you are able to fix your MD. I have read that if you're going to store your MD for longer than a month or so, to take out the batteries. You are probably on the right track, though, cleaning the connections. Good Luck! I hope you find lots on the beaches up there.

Default Welcome aboard

Welcome aboard... I have some friends and family in Ca but have never been there.. As far as your detector being an older model.. Nothing wrong with that.. if it still works. I am guilty of using an old Bounty Hunter II most of the time, myself.

Seems I am more in tune with it than I am with either of my Garretts or Tesoro. True, I have to dig a lot of junk items but thing is, the old thing still works... Even after having me work on it when I was 14. That was 24 years ago!!!

Good luck to you and I am looking forward to seeing your finds.

James
