Hello, and Welcome, to Treasure Quest. I am also in southern Louisiana. I live between Franklin and New Iberia. This is a great site and the people here are very friendly and very helpful. Ask, and we will do anything we can to help you out!

I would have never thought there were so many beer tabs, and drilled out rivets in ones yard. Is metal detecting like fishing in that you should stretch the truth by a little? If so besides $3 in change I found a diamond ring also. LOL Later Kent

Hello and Welcome. What are the chances--- I'm originally from Houma (born and raised)? Been here in Arkansas for about eight years now. Dude, Houma is full of place to hunt. I wasn't detecting when I lived there but would love to be there now. Just a couple of real quick spots I try.

West Houma
LegionParkSchool area- years ago there was a minor league (American Legion) baseball field in the area. It was a hot attraction back in the day.

Out in Gray there used to be an old NHRA drag racing strip.

Downtown Houma

I remember as a kid (just a few years back- ha-ha), there was a major gas line blew up. It took Latours Jewelry store with it. Try the banks of Bayou Terrebonne near the Petit Theater area.

There are tons of old school yards.

East Houma
The air base. That park used to be a great gathering spot. There use to be an old skating rink/ huge play area where the FOP building is (or at least was when I left). Also try back were the old blimp base was, might find some old WW2 relics. And don't forget the ammo bunkers out there.

I would also try some of the old abandoned church yards in the surrounding area. And if you can permission, places like Southdown plantation could be a gold mine in relics.

Keep us posted on your progress and your finds. Write with any questions.

Happy,

Misplaced Cajun

Small world and strange you should think of the first 2 places I thought about detecting (area around the gas explosion and the old race track). I use to race there 30 years ago. LOL I didn't think about the old blimp base. Thanks for the help. Houma is growing to fast for me. Cement is covering a lot of good detecting places. thanks again.

Welcome to the forum!

Don't forget to check the local library. The librarian can probably help you find books on the local history, and many libraries have copies of old newspapers on microfiche.

Good luck and happy hunting!
