Default Moving to Tampa

Hi all,
I am new to the forum. I am moving to Tampa this fall and am hoping to make new friends and hopefully a metal detecting buddy. I will be living not far from the front gate of Macdill AFB. I am retired Air Force and I have done a lot of detecting in my day mostly on Okinawa. My finds there were extraordinary. Hundreds of silver coins, and a lot of unexploaded grenades, mortar rounds etc. Anyway, I have been away from the hobby for a lot of years and being I am moving to Florida I am going to take it up again. The wife likes to tag along with me when I go out to play so a friend with a wife who likes to go would be great. We are bringing some household stuff down there in August arriving around the 10th and will have a week there to meet and greet then return to the Northwest and hopefully sell the house and get to Florida right after. I really looking forward to doing some detecting...been away too long.

Welcome to the TQ family. I hope you have lots of great hunts after you get settled in.

As a former Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal Tech, I'm sure the Okinawa EOD shop loved you.

I spent a few years stationed at Andersen AFB in Guam. I went on more than my share of those calls.

Good luck, and happy hunting!

Thanks for the nice replies. To answer a couple questions. Yes EOD loved me, well not really. I was young and dumb then, they would approach a site where I dug a mortar round or a round from a ship and they would just look at me and shake their head. One guy said "Sarge, we can understand you finding it with your hobby but we just don't understand why you handle it" Also to answer another question, I kept no live grenades. The Japanese grenades I found were defused and given to the museum in Naha Okinawa. I did find a Marines Dog Tag under a foot of dirt on Hamburger Hill. I tried for over 20 years to find him or the next of kin..no luck until my son went to work for the VA and he told me he died a few weeks earlier with no next of kin. I gave the tag to a man writing a book about the war, what he did with it I don't know. If anyone wants to hook up and go detecting when I get there my email is nwthings2@yahoo.com
