Default Hi, new to Hobby

Hi to everyone
I am a newbie to this hobby.
I have been reading alot and have alot to choose from
What I want is to buy a nice Metal Detector to take back to Mexico and use
it while on Vacation there, any suggestions would be appreciated.
Will be looking on hard grounds and looking for mostly gold coins
and might need something to search deep 4-5 feet or less
budget around 600-700

Thank you
Casey

Default Whites MD's

I am also new to the hobby. I use a White's metal detector. When the screen on the PRIZM III says it is a pull tab that is what it is or if it says a quarter it is a quarter. I would suggest you to check out their page. Happy Hunting in Mexico!!!

Welcome Casey!
I'm sure the folks here can get you set up fine. Unless you're uncovering large caches, 4+ feet is a mighty long ways down for a hand-held detector. If you're really looking to search that deep, you'll want to look at specialty items for the mining industry. I'm sure one of the dealers on here can give you more details. In any case, welcome aboard!

Hi and welcome.
If you are looking for groups of coin or a container of coins you will need a two box deepseeker or a detector with a lerge coil.
If you are looking for individual coins then it is much easier to choose a detector but they cannot go as deep as you say you want to on individual coins.
Please give me a call and I'll make sure you get hooked up with the correct detector for your needs.

Post Mexico coins

Mexico has demonitized their coinage in past years, so the gold and silver ones will be about the only ones worth much. Also the modern ones with their nickel content (e.g. brass center with nickel outer ring) may be too easily tuned out if you are looking to pick them up on the way.

My Minelab Soverign has to be in all metal mode to pick up the modern nickel coins from Mexico and Canada, but has detected ounce size lead stoppers at 30" in bone dry mineralized soil in discriminate mode using the WOT.

Listen to our Sponsor Dealers and they can steer you in the right direction.
