New to the hobby

Hi all I am brand new to the hobby. My wife just purchased me a White DFX MD. I live in Virginia and I am inclined to think I have lots of beaches to hunt on. Then I started thinking about laws, local or otherwise. Can I hunt with my MD on any public beach? If there is a sticky on any information like this, please point me to it.

never hunted Va. beaches but in Md and De. beaches its ok
check your states web site should tell you there

I've had no problems with the beaches of OH and MI. Like Len said you may find more info on your state website. Welcome to the forum.

Bighog, WELCOME to the TQ FAMILY ! It's GREAT to have you with us and we look forward to your pic's. and post's.

I have learned in the past that when authorities do not want metal detecting on beaches that they usually post signs to that effect at the public entrance ways to the beach. I have never yet been denied access to a beach throughout the U.S. unless part of the beach was on Federal Land ( Such as Forts ) etc. and even then the area was posted.

HAVE FUN and let us see those finds.

If you still feel uncomfortable...Stop in the local Law Enforcement agency and ask...They will be glad to help.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the information. I just had the wife put the halt on the DFX. I am leaning toward the Tesoro Sand Shark. It looks less comlicated and I will be at the beach alot. I just wonder how well they work on land. Thanks all!

Thanks again and I just told the wife I want the Tiger Shark. I like the warranty and it comes the closest to what I am looking for as far as a dual purpose MD. Thanks again all, I look forward to sharing my experiences.
