Default New guy in MD, which detector to get?

Hello all, new guy here in northeastern Maryland. I have been checking out this forum for the past few days, but have always wanted to get a metal detector and do some searching of my own.

I have been perplexed by the amount of detectors available, but keep being drawn back to the Ace 250, for the best bang-for-your-buck factor. My intention is to use this in a few different settings, mostly old foundations and properties, but I also have full access to my parent's beach house and was pondering using it there. Any input would be welcome.

Welcome to Treasure Quest, the best darn MD forum anywhere. I think the Ace 250 is a good machine. I don't have one but it has been the most talked about detector since I joined this family of fine friends.

Hi and welcome to TQ. I had a Garrett years ago and it was a good detector, and from being on this forum, it sounds like they still are, plenty of people here have them and I can't recall hearing any negatives. I'm sure you'll get plenty of responses to your post.

Also, use it everywhere you can, I think NE is a great place to detect, the beach house sounds good too, especially if it's older. My neighbor had a beach house down the road at Red Point. Never got down there to detect though.

Good Luck!

The beach house is in Ocean City, MD on the Atlantic, so it would be salt-water, but I also have plenty of access locally to the bay and freshwater river shorelines as well. Guess I'm kinda looking for a decent all-around machine. The price range I am looking for is up to $300, and the ACE 250 would leave me some change for accessories.

I see now that you said northeastern, my mind went directly to the town of North East in Cecil County, are you anwhere near there?

I was just down OC area the beginning of this month, made some good beach finds.

Welcome to TQ! Look forward to seeing your finds! The Ace 250 is a very ppular machine with members here. Some have added optional coils to it to enhance it. I understand the confusion about which to buy but the good thing about the hobby is that you can start finding money for the next detector!
