Claycountynate, I'll tell you what, I have done quite a bit of resreach on that cat Jesse he was a High Roller. Most of the money he robbed he spent pretty quickly. All the house sites that he lived in up here they have dug out 6' because they thought he had buried treasure under his houses. My grandfather owns some property where it is once thought to be an old hideout of his. I took an M-scope over there started hunting and something went wrong with the headphones. If you want to come up you are more then welcome. Act quick though because my grandpa is selling his house here soon, Who knows maybe you can find what I have not with your 2500 I only have an Ace250.
Oh yeah, Welcome to the forum

Thanks Fiftytwo pennies!!!! I will definetely take you up on your offer.. I have a lead down here that goes way back in a local family, not related, but associated with the james gang, mostly with jesse himself about a "game" he played with their kids, and hid small caches of misc. coins, for them to find.. I have never heard the story anywhere else on the net, etc. but it comes from 3 different people that heard it through their family(same family) and it is wrote in their GG grandpas bible "Zerelda's boy is quite the child charmer" was one of the things wrote. I assume its authentic, don't think someone would make this story up.. too many people in the family are familiar with it. The area where they used to live is now a subdivision in the county, but i know about where the property lines go, and part of it is in a county park..and has a creek with a known swimming hole of the james boys on it...so maybe. we'll see.. My uncle has found some musketballs and interesting relics there.. and as far as I know.. there were no civil war skirmishes or battles that far easy of Kearney.... send me a message before it gets cold and we'll meet up and go exploring..Thanks

Default Thanks everyone

Thanks everyone!!! I am excited about making some new friends here and enjoying everyone elses finds and stories..I have alot of stories to tell as well.. i hope you all like them.. I come from a long long line of md'ers all the way down to my grandpa... they had detectors in the early sixties, and got to find all the "virgin" yards, churches, cemeteries, schools, fairgrounds, etc.. some stories that will blow your minds.... of course the kept all their topo maps and notes.. but like my dad says.. oh, son,, we hunted that 1850's church out long ago...with his garrett groundhog or deepseeker from 1975...Hehehehe.. My garrett GTI 2500 is a different story.. so I am going back to the places that he and my uncles found what they call "pocket fulls of walking liberties, barbers, mercuries and morgans..(which i have seen by the way)" and am finding what they have "left" behind, if someones else hasn't gotten to them by now... i'm finding that these country churches and old schools that are just foundations or in some new housing additions yards, are turning up IH pennies, wheaties and occational barbers, so don't think that the stuff our elders say is "hunted out" is actually hunted out.. I have been doing a ton of research here locally, and with Jesse James living around here, and all the outlaws running around, and being a direct route from cameron for union troops to pass through....there is stuff to be found even in the woods, where nothings ever been, ..........or where we think nothing has been...LOL..thanks for the warm welcome everyone.

Hey CCNate.
I hunted a park that my dad said he hunted back in the 70's and that he found everything, and guess what, I have found some old coins that he missed along with a few relics.
So - are places really ever hunted out? I don't think so..........Good Luck

Default Thats sweet

Hey Indy,

I'm glad im not the only one going back to these places... Its actually not that hard to find good stuff, even in "hunted out" areas, Most of the MD'ing boom came in the late 70's , and 80's,, and the new MD'ers are way more advanced.. the Large Penny I found in ohio this august was 9 inches down,, my GTI 2500 said it was a 50 cent piece, but nailed it at 9 inches.. I have found old axe heads and matchbox cars at that depth as well.. The hobby isn't that big around here. there are only a couple clubs and few detector shops around here.. so its pretty common to find one of these "hunted out" places havent been touched since the goonies came out in the early 80's...so now, its like a "Virgin" yard again... by the time the ground has rolled, theres no telling what a person could find here.. We don't have the problem of "sinking" here.. the soil is called clay county mud..it is suck a dense clay in most places, that some IH pennies I have found are 2 inches deep... Most places they are 6..If I ever get to ur neck of the woods, i'll look u up.. happy TH'ing... Glad to see another fellow Coingshooter, most dig it all... c ya
