Hi Jack - and welcome to the TQ family.
I started my life as a treasure hunter with a Bounty Hunter Pioneer 202 - yep, the Walmart special

, but I tell you, it was a great machine to learn on, especially when I was undecided as to whether metal detecting was something that would keep my interest or not. So I can completely understand starting out with something lower priced and not so fancy. If my Bounty Hunter hadn't broken down on me a couple of weeks ago I'd still be using it and having the time of my life. But sadly it did go beserk on me and I was persuaded to purchase the ACE 250 as a replacement. Best thing I ever did!
I look at it like driving a car. When you first get your license, the last thing you're going to do is go out and buy an expensive car. You want something pre-owned and inexpensive to learn on. That way if you bang it up a little it's no big deal and if you lose interest in a couple of months you haven't lost much. But when if/when it breaks down on you, or you decide you enjoy detecting enough to upgrade, you'll be comfortable enough with your present machine to be able to make an educated decision on which machine will suit you next.
Have fun with this machine...and between all the members of this family we'll help you figure out how to use it to it's best capabilities!! And when you're ready for an upgrade...we'll all have our favourite machines to tell you about!
HH!
