Global Girl, You might check out and post on the following blog:
Treasure Hunting - A Metal Detector Enthusiast's Guide It is meant to address the problem of trash and litter collection. It's the code. I MD mostly on beaches. On a normal day I collect and dispose of 2-4 bags of litter and metallic trash. On my favorite beach when I started I would collect as many as 100 bobby pins in one hunt as well as all manner of metallic trash. Now it is almost boring - there is only the new metallic trash on about 2 miles of beach. But always lots of litter. Today I MD at a new beach for me. I found 3 separate caches of aluminum cans at 15+ inches. One cache had 12 cans buried in it. I trust that all members of TQ adhere to the code. Welcome to TQ and a great bunch of treasure hunters. Happy hunting. Remember that if you collect and dispose of the trash you find it is a good hunt. We all win.

Hi, GG and welcome to TQ! I applaud your sentiments. The one thing I have learned is that responsible detectorists give back by removing trash and disposing of it properly.
I hunt in the water and I often get a few curious kids who want to know what I am doing. I tell them I'm the janitor of the beach and show them my trash pouch. We talk about how much trash there is in the sand and how important it is to throw it away. Some of the kids seem more responsible than their parents. And, once in a while Neptune rewards me with a treasure from his coffer. Kind of a payback for taking out the trash!

Welcome to TQ! You find a lot of trash out there but some the finds are worth the effort.
