I'm not a GPAA member but heard about the Gold and Tresure show. Met and was interviewed by Tom Massey but had only heard of him as since our cable doesn't have the Outdoors channel. The wife and I like to collect rocks and gems but this area isn't know for gold. I have also collected coins since I was a kid so MDing was the perfect compliment. There were some mines that produced some silver in the area but they are now under water. I would like to find an MD club.

EBC that was the chart I printed but I can't remember where I got it so thanks for the link and Ken I am like you on that aspect. I try it first usually. In this case I actually watched the video and read the manual first. Maybe that is where I went wrong. I have also read most of the tips on this site. I am hoping to try a few out tomorrow morning. And Steve, I love the avitar!

Hi and welcome,

Be careful of your sensitivity setting as it can create lots of false signals if set too high and poor depth if set too low . I always hold a detector so the coil is about waist level and adjust sensitivity until it becomes unstable then backoff until it regains stability, then lower to the ground and adjust if necessary to attain stable operation.

Whereabouts in Chester County are you. I lived near the PA line in Delaware just south of Chadds Ford about 15 years. Had an X Terra 50 when they first came out and used it about a year or so. Good luck HH Bill

It's a shame they closed the Valley Forge Music Fair. Went there often and miss the theater in the round. What a great venue for a Concert or a Show. HH Bill

I miss it also. My mom was an inner-circle member there. I saw the Moody Blues, Chicago, Joe Walsh and B.B. King all from the third row. Now it's a Borders Books.

Hey Buster,
I used to go to happy hour at Air Transport Command on Fridays after work. That was a really cool place. My friend's son was stationed there until recently.

Hi CanUDigIt and welcome to TQ, alot of friendly and helpful people here!

I'm from Chester County too, Caln Township. You make the 3rd that I know of in Chesco, I'm sure Rikki will chime in to say hi.

I was at the Carlisle hunt also, probably saw you, didn't do to well with all the trash in the ground though.

I belong to the Lancaster Research and Recovery Club, about 45 minutes from me but it's a good club. They meet the first Tuesday of the month. I don't make many meetings, but I'll be glad to take you as a guest to one.

I'm not too familiar with the xterra line (I use an SE) but there are plenty of people on here who do very well with them. One thing that I do know about the Explorers is that they don't do nearly as well in air tests as they do picking up buried stuff, that may explain the depth reading?

What kind of areas are you hunting? Just remember that your coil has to be over the good stuff to pick it up and the next pulltab signal that you get could easily be a ring. You may want to try parks or fairgrounds for some experience especially after an event is held. I go to the Brandywine hospital after the Strawberry festival to pick up some easy clad.

Don't get frustrated, it takes time to really learn any machine, I think that I thought there was something wrong with every detector that I ever bought, but it was always me not understanding what it was telling me . Hang in there, you'll be digging the good stuff in no time!

Hi Alan,
You aren't far from me. I been to a park in Phoenixville near a Civil War graveyard that also was a Lenni-Lenape site. Figured I had to find something cool. I got tabs and RR spikes. I am going back tomorrow morning with my new tips. I also went an old mill site in Delaware Co. and got old nails. The GPAA hunt was my only finds. I didn't really mind that it was seeded since I am still learning my X-30 and, come on, who doesn't like silver. I would like to do more. I also got to watch people who at least knew more than I did. I ended up with a '64 and '66 Kennedy and 11 silver dimes. No tokens. I did find a clad dime so I guess that is my first real find. My wife won a door prize. I enjoyed the show but wish I could have seen some of the seminars and the panning contest and exhibitions. It was still a great day. I would be interested in the Lancaster Club's events but the meetings are a bit of a drive for a week night for me. It is still probably the closest I've seen since I been looking.
