Just wanted to say "Hi" and good luck to all. I just got a Minelab Xterra 30. Any help or tips would be appreciated. Couldn't find a local club in my area. Just went to the GPAA Gold and Treasure Show in Carlisle, PA. If it wasn't for that seeded hunt, I haven't done much more than clean a lot of pull tabs out of a local park and get a lot of exercise in. Pretty sure it is my technique since I live in a historic area. I've have quite a few spots eyed but need to sharpen my skills first. Glad to listen to any advise anyone has to offer.

Welcome to Treasure Quest. I guess the best advice I can give is Practice..Practice...Practice. Keep at it and listen to those tones.

Welcome to the site, and congrats on the X-30!! That is a nice unit, I have the X-70.

Look for good repetable numbers and sounds. If you scan a site and get a good hit alter your position 90 degress to that. If the same tone and ID are there, the chances are good it is a good target.

I guess you looked at the vid that came with the unit? If not utube has some good X-Terra vids. Check them out.

Also get you some coins and go out in the yard to practice with. Get used to the sounds and tones. In the begening dig it all and soon you will understand your unit.

Good luck, and enjoy the hunt, Beale.

Hi and welcome to TQ! You have a good machine that has proven itself. Just need to get soem quality time with it and you will be fine. Have you tried bench testing with different items to see how the machine reacts?

Take a look in our tips section at a post titled "Your most important piece of advice". A lot of great info there.

Thank you for the welcome! EBCIII thanks for the tips. I actually watched the CD and picked up another at the GPAA show but it was the same one that came with my package deal. I have also spread out clad, silvers and gold to get a feel for some readings. I also got a cheat sheet for the 30. My problem is that some objects read three or four different readings. I have also had it read a dime on my floor and register as 8 inches while sweeping an inch above it. I dig everything and have only gotten tabs, 2 RR spikes, foil and spikes. I was thinking of trying for the Guiness book with an aluminum foil ball or chain made of all of the tabs. My philosophy is to dig um all and enjoy the exercise but it would be a bit more finding something that resembles treasure.

Also went to the site of a long forgotten mill last weekend and got a handful of old nails.

Welcome.. you have a fine machine.. best advice I can give you is to not do like I did. I'm use to buying something putting the instructions on the side and figureing it out. It does not work with these machines. read and watch the video over and over until you fully understand it.
