Hi 2blueis and welcome to TQ, alot of friendly and helpful people here.

I have a Cibola that I use mainly for treasure hunts. It's a great detector, I don't think it would be too much at all for you, it's very light weight. Another detector that alot of people use is the Garrett Ace 250 and they seem to love it, it has a meter that gives you an idea of the depth and I think also what it is. There are several sponsors on here who are familiar with most brands and I'm sure they'll pop in to help.

The best advice that I can give is to read the manual thoroughly, watch any training videos if it comes with one, don't get frustrated, dig everything until you really understand what the detector is telling you and practice, practice, practice. If it beeps constantly turn down the sensitivity. The buttons on the Cibola are for sensitivity, discrimination, threshold, Pinpoint button and a frequency shift.

Good luck on whatever detector you choose!

Welcome to the site 2blueis! Glad to have you on.

The Tesoro Cibola is a very nice machine. I looked very hard at one when I was buying. It is a great unit for a new hunter.

Talk to one of our sponsors and let them know what you are hunting for, where you will be hunting, and they can really help.

Good luck with your choice and happy hunting, Beale.

Hi Blue, welcome and the Cibola is a very good detector. I was using mine last week and found a small antique metal dish with an enamelled finish at 8 or 9 inches deep. I sold a Cibola to a local lady about 2 years ago and it was no time she had a pile of coins! No you can't go wrong and if you buy a new one they have the lifetime warranty! If I can help you further PM me and I will be more specific. God Bless and have a great day.

Hi and welcome to TQ, 2Blueis! I have heard a lot of good things about the Cibola and with its lifetime warranty, I don't see how you can go wrong. It will find anything that you are looking for. The only thing you need is some patience and time to "tune yourself into it".

Before you go out the first time, pass the detector over some part of your lawn to make sure nothing is there, then put some different coins and jewelry on the ground about a foot apart then pass the detector over them to see what sound each makes. You can do the same thing inside on a table and just pass things at various distances under the coil. This will give you an idea about how deep it will detect.

Take a look around the forum. There's a lot of great people and information here. The metal detecting tips is a good place to look and the Tesoro section has great info as well.

Don't be shy about asking any question that you have. As you see, we have members that have one too!

Good luck!

Welcome to Treasure Quest - you will find tons of help from the members here. I am not familiar with the Tesoro Cibola, but I have heard a lot of great things concerning the machine. I agree with Steve in PR with his advice on testing different coins and jewelry under the coil to determine what you will hear. That would help you with whatever machine purchase you make. I personally own a Garrett Ace 250 and it is also a great starter machine that many people here at TQ have - however I don't think you can beat a lifetime warrantee that Tesoro gives on all their detectors! Good luck with whatever purchase you make!
