Default New to hobby - need a MD

I went out last week with a friend who metal detects and he uses an older higher end Tesoro. I've been reading reviews of entry level detectors and researching them to see which best suits my needs. I spoke to a local hobby shop who sells Garretts and White's and they highly suggest the White's line. I like both as they are both made in US.

My question is - has anyone done any side by side comparisons on the Ace 250 vs the Prism II? I've pretty much narrowed it down to these two detectors but I don't know which to select.

Any help would be appreciated.

By the way, my first day out with my friend I found 6 pennies, a 2000 state quarter and a silver men's ring - so I'm pumped and ready to get going.

Hey Yogi! Welcome to TQ! I currently use a Prizm III - and love it. It has been a great first machine (turn it on and go) and has performed extremely well! I plan to upgrade to a high-end Whites (MXT of DFX) this year only because I'm hooked on this hobby and want to try some new things. I don't believe the differences between the Prizm II and the III are many - and I can definitely tell you that I've been pleased with Whites as a brand. Good luck and happy hunting!

Welcome to TQ, Yogi! Glad to have you here! I don't know much about either rmodel except that a few of our members who bought the Ace 250 added a Sniper coil to it. Good luck!
