Smile Welcome to TQ!

Welcome to TQ. I was hoping to give you some advice, even though I am not familiar with your exact machine. Then John's Detectors blew my mind. I didn't realize any machine today would have a preset ground balance. That's really tough to overcome.
The tip about lowering sensitivity is a good one. Contrary to what you might think intuitively, lowering sensitivity stabilizes a machine without affecting depth. It sounds like you probably are hunting where there is a lot of old rusted iron in the ground. That makes for difficult hunting with many machines. Even if you use discrimination to mask iron, the rust in the soil will saturate the circuits and indicate a false good target.
The other suggestion also seems reasonable, raise the coil over the surface a little more. This will affect depth.
Bench testing for different targets and testing on a "clean" place in your own yard may help you learn to cope with the high mineralizaion.
Happy hunting and good luck!

Wow....Thank you all for your replies. I turned on the computer this morning to find 15 replies to my post. Thank you all for the great welcome and advise. I actually have a new Vaquero in my sites which obviously has manual ground balance. I have had wonderful success witht he Deleon in totlots, parks, etc but this was my first experience in these conditions. Thank you again

HI David WELCOME to TQ. Lots of Graet folks here and as you acn see are willing to help anytime they can. Don't know about the DeLeon but I can tell ya that the Vequero is a Sweet Machine and the Manual Ground Balance is a Piece of Cake to do. You might want to look at thr Cibola & Silver U max if your in the Tesoro market. Maybe the DD coil would help on the DeLeon. Talk to our Sponsors here and they will help ya out with anything Ya need to know. I'm sure You'll be back to that place and come away with some nice finds. Glad to have Y a aboard.

Good Luck & HH
