Interesting British Hallmarks
The Crown is the most common symbol used by the British to denote gold and the 18 denotes that it is 18k. What is curious about this ring is that it is missing most of the other symbols one would expect to find on a British ring like the assayer's office mark, the maker's mark, the date mark and possibly with an old ring the customs mark.
The customs mark would have appeared between 1784 and 1890 so we can rule out these dates. It is certainly older than 1975 when a full set of marks would have been required by law. Therefore, the ring is either pre 1784 or somewhere in the range between 1890 and 1975 with a leaning towards the earlier date. The inlaid middle band is heavily corroded and of a different metal than the 18k gold around it, possibly a silver inlay, platinum is unlikely as it holds up to corrosion as well as gold. At a guess I would say that your ring is British in origin and dating from the WWI era. Very Nice Find, BDA
