Question Silver Inside and Out

I'm new to this whole thing. It's going to be one of my hobbies now, as I am semi-retired. I have a peculiar question for anyone who would like to respond.
Here it is: Will a metal detector pick up my own body ?
I'll try to explain: I got into a stupid thing when some years ago I saw in a (Health) magazine that drinking colloidal silver would help certain health issues that I had at that time. I should probably say "mental" health issues now. At any rate, back to my question. I got what is known as Argyria. It is a blueish discoloration of the skin, and other organs, resulting from consuming a silver solution. It is permanent. The discoloration is caused from tiny silver particles lodged in the sweat glands, etc. I am literally a silverman. I'm sure that it will have an effect on a metal detector of any sophistication. I do not trigger simple detectors in airports or when they are run over my body for weapons checks at entryways and such. It also does not have effects on getting a medical X-ray or CT-scan. MRI scans and such don't seem to be effected either.
So, what do you think ? I already know I was crazy to have drank that crap. It will be interesting to hear responses. I won't get a detector until I get any/all the information I can.
Thanks, and happy hunting !

Hi and welcome to TQ.....

Im sure it wont affect a metal detector.... the coil is quite a way from your body and if it doesnt set off other types of detectors, it most likely wont have any effect....

Have fun and be sure to show us your finds

Hi Nambro and welcome to TQ!

I really don't know but it is an interesting question though. Silver is highly conductive but my guess would be that a detector probably wouldn't pick it up because I would think that it isn't like a thin sheet but more like a finely spread powder (for lack of a better word). Detectors often give a broken on signal silver chains and whats in you body most likely isn't as concentrated as they are.

Just my thoughts.

Let us know what price range of detector and what type of hunting you'll be doing and you'll get alot of ideas from the helpful and friendly people on this site, you may also want to contact our great sponsors here who will be more than willing to help.

Looking forward to your posts!

Hi, Nambro and welcome to TQ!

Like the others have said here, it is highly unlikely your silver content would affect youre machine. Most coils will only detect 6 - 8" and your body will be a couple feet away from the coil. I imagine any silver would need to be concentrated as well.

It would be interesting to know if it could even sense it with direct application against your skin, out of curiosity.

If you have any doubts, see if you have a metal detector dealer in your area and go try one out and see for yourself. I think you will be pleased to find that it will not affect your hunting.

In the meanwhile, keep us posted if you buy machine. The ground is thawing (some places) and spring will be here soon!

Hello & welcome to TQ, Nambro, as others have said I wouldn't think your metal detector would be affected, good luck on deciding on what detector to get, there's a lot of good ones out there.

Welcome, welcome to TQ! I think we all agree that the metal detector will be held far enough away from your body that it shouldn't cause any problems with your silverness. So welcome to a great, addictive hobby!!! Where are you thinking of hunting? What's your budget for a metal detector? What would you like to search for? Give us some more details and we can help you pick somethin' to get started with!

Welcome again! - Ali

hello and welcome to TQ. My husband recently had a pade maker defibulator place in his chest and we went all around with the DR about metal detecting. Well the good news is that we called the labratory that makes the units and got the green light to detect. Airport metal detectors have three time the magnetic field that a hobby unit carries and if you can walk through a metal detector at an airport you can for sure metal detect. Hope you enjoy this great heathy Hobby.
