Welcome to the site Moore! Very glad to have you on the site. The MXT is a sweet machine! It will do what you are looking at it for. I am sure if you read the manual and practice it will be a good unit to start on.
One other suggestion is the Minelab X Terra 70. Very nice unit, very easy to use. Same type capabilities as the MXT. Just another to compare. Good luck with your choice, Beale.

Welcome moore1965
Ive owned the MXT...It was a good machine inland but didnt like hunting in the wet sand at the beach....It made alot of chatter....worked great in the dry sand...I would recommend The Garrett Ace 250...Its around half the price and works well everywhere. Good hunting to ya....Whatever machine you decide on. Sandyfeet

i think it should work fine for you. all white's machines have turn-on-and-go programs where you just select the desired mode, ground balance, and then start hunting!! i know that white's machines also have a prospecting program which should fit your gold finding needs. good luck.
