Welcome to TQ, Marine, just keep at it & don't give up, you will never stop finding trash, we all find it every time we hunt, it is a little aggravating but it goes with the territory, you will get the good stuff you're after.

Default Adapt, Improvise and Overcome.

Metal dectecting requires thought, effort and persistance, just like any other kind of hunting. By focussing your energy on better hunting grounds that you have researched you will do better, by learning your machine so that you understand what it is trying to tell you, you will do better. This is a bit like being a marine, understand the terrain, understand the target and determine the best way to achieve the mission. The rules are a little different but the concept is the same.

Semper Fi,

BDA

HI 4mrMarine ..Welcome to TQ ! A Salute to You for Your Service ! Pretty much what everyone else has said. You have to remember that there are 2 control Boxes you are dealing with. The 1 on your Detector Shaft and the 1 right there in the middle of your shoulders. Let your Ears be the Conduit between them so You learn what your Detector is telling You. You want to be in Sync with eachother. Figure the different tones to be like Morse-Code...Once you know what that Tone means and is Saying the more you'll be digging less trash. But as All have said Where there is Trash There is also Treasure so at First ..Dig all Tones till Ya get use to them. It Can get VERY Frustrating at Times but Just keep at it and the Good Stuff will come. Thats what we are here for . If ya have questions just ask away and someone will try to help ya out. If your just Bored or Frustrated then come here to vent or check out all the different forums on the Home Page. Alot of Interesting and Helpful Stuff and Ya may have a Few Laughs to.Check out the Virtual Treasure Hunt Forum. EPC_GUY is putting on a Around the World In 8 Clues contest where 1rst Prize is a Fisher F2 Detector. His will be starting I believe around March 12th so get in on the fun and maybe win something. I will be putting on The ...13 Clues on a Dead Mans Chest Hunt in Late May or Early June. There will also be a Detector for 1rst Prize in that one tho I can't say what it is right now. Also Check out our Monthly Group Buy where for every $10.00 ya get a Ticket and at the end of the month they draw a number for the prize wich is a certificate from one of our Sponsors valued at depending how many people get in. I Believe this month it is up to about $220.00 or so. Just telling Ya so maybe thats a way to Upgrade later. Anyway ... Glad to have Ya aboard !!! DON"T GIVE UP !!! We will Help Ya Learn This Hobby and Ya Won't Regret It !!

Digging trash is part of the game no matter what detector or $$ you have spent on one. I would just say practice, practice, practice. Soon you will learn your machine a bit more and perhaps dig up less trash.. Never give up!

Any machine is only as good as the person who learns what it's saying...there are folks who have machines that cost over $1000 who complain that they can't find anything - and that it must be a defective unit!

Keep practicing - and you'll find goodies with ANY machine....keep plugging away until you can upgrade (if that's your plan) and have FUN!

BTW - I saw where TinMan told you about the virtual hunt I'm hosting in March - I hope you'll join in - and who knows? You may be able to win a Fisher F2 - a darn good machine.

Best of luck and Happy Hunting!
