Hey Marine! Welcome to TQ! It can be frustrating but persistence pays off. To learn your machine you have to dig every signal. It will help you learn what your detector is telling you. If you don't dig the tabs, you'll probably miss the gold. Besides, digging tabs cleans the area for an easier hunt next time Good luck to you and keep reading the forum for info.

Finding trash is part of MDing. I am new to MDing also and finding alot of bottle caps, nails, pull tabs, etc in my own yard. I imagine it is going to be worse when I make my first trip to a park.

Don't be bummed. We all find plenty of crap. Check out my albums for the results from my hunts. My first hunt was full of crap. It's not all about what you find, it's the thrill of the hunt, the aura of mystery...will it be a coin, jewelry, or a pull-tab!

Just dig up everything and learn your machine.
