Well, it looks like there will be another owner of a Ace 250 on the forum.
What is the sniper coil that EBCIII is talking about and what is it used for?

The sniper coil is a smaller coil that is very useful when working trashy areas because it allows you to slip around junk targets like iron to get a reading from a good target like silver or gold. A large coil would pick up both targets at the same time and you would keep on walking without digging because you would think it was just a chunk of old iron or a nail, not a nice silver coin or a gold ring.
You cover less ground but in some situations it is the perfect coil.

Cheers,

BDA

Hey NexusX, like BDA pointed out the sniper is real good in a trashy spot. It also allows you to get closer to fences, poles, playground stuff. Allowinf you to get the hard to find objects.

Good luck to you if you do end up with the Ace, Beale.

Welcome to the best darn MD forum anywhere. Just get you a detector and start practicing. Most of them are good when you learn how to use them. That Ace 250 sure gets talked about a bunch round here tho. JC

I want to thank you all for the warm welcome and all the great info. I need to do some more reading, make up my mind, and order my new detector. I also need a smaller coil and digging gear.
Thanks,
Dan

Hey Dan I have a old pouch and a digger. If you want I will let you have them for the cost of shipping, Beale.

I am in the same boat.I just decided to buy my Dad a new machine, and get my daughter one as well..I am thinking about getting my dad the Ace 250 and my daughter the fisher F2..check around some of the sponsers will offer package deal that will include head phones and carring case and a digging tool...Folks on here sure do like the ace 250..I have read several good reviews on the Fisher F2 as it really being a great detector..Its fast and will go deep and it comes with the smaller coil..and works great from salt beaches to the mountains.with real time depth readings..I like the function controls on the ace 250 just pick what your doing and go..I would love to be able to do a test on them both before my purchase since I will be buying 2 at one time....welcome to tq..james
