Holy cow! Thank you all for all of the warm welcomes, and kind comments. Methinks I'll be here a lot.
My detector is a White's 5000/D Series 3, and my wife's is a Series 5000/D Series 2, in the "Grey Ghost" version. Both of them sniffed out some really nice finds back in the day, and I'm sure that there's still plenty of use left in both of them. At my age, you really appreciate the older stuff. For metal detecting, we mainly liked to do Civil War relic hunting, as properties were commercially developed in likely areas. Fortunately for us, Sherman's Atlanta Campaign covered a lot of North Georgia, and recovering relics before they were destroyed by development was satisfaction added to the fun. And we also liked to coinshoot. I've surface-collected Indian artifacts for as long as I can remember, although it's been years since we devoted much time to it. Bare dirt has always attracted me like magnet! Over this winter I finally made a frame for my points (being an incurable packrat, I had this nice window pane that was begging to be recycled into something useful). If I can manage to figure this out, hopefully included with this post is a pic of our point collection; about 80% are our personal finds. Now I'm needing do something about getting our Civil War collection into a display (used to have it in a glass-top table, which was nice). We mainly like bullets; there's such a fascinating variety from that period. In both areas of interest, to me researching the history for good sites is almost as much fun as the hunting itself. Hope ya'll will pardon my long post here; it's just really good to find a site like this. I'm looking forward to talking with you all from here on out, and especially when it comes to congratulating ya'll on your future great finds. Happy Hunting! Robbie |
