Default Never been MDing

Hello,
I saw a show recently on the Travel Channel, I believe, where they did some metal detecting in CT for colonial relics and now I think I am hooked! I have never been MDing but I am going to rent one next weekend just to see how to work it. Any suggestions on what would be the best metal detector I could get for a beginner????

It depends a great deal on what you want to do. I think you've got the right idea by renting one for a weekend and getting a bit of a feel for it. There are so many options, and so many good machines, that it's hard to say more than "it depends". Tell us what you are going to be looking for mostly (coins, artifacts) and if you're gonna be hitting beaches or parks, etc., maybe what you might be willing to spend. All important questions. There are lots of dealers on here that can take this a few steps farther!

Welcome, best wishes, and good hunting!

WARNING metal detecting is habit forming. You will have loads of fun, find treasures galore, and make wonderful friends. Be careful.

I think mostly just coins, relics and such. I live near a historically filled area but not sure if I can do much on the battlefield areas. I mostly just want to try my had at it and go from there.

Hi, Kelsmom and welcome to TQ!

You have a great hunting area and the rental is a good idea.

If you go to a dealer to rent, he can probably help guide you in to the right machine.

See if he can provide you with a training video, (Oh, wait a minute, I'm showing my age) I mean a training DVD.

Any way, let us know what you think and how it all turns out!

Finding your first coin is kinda like your first kiss....
