Hi guys,

Well, this is my first post.

I am 38, married, and have two kids. In the mid 1990’s I would take an annual trip to Dixie to dig Civil War relics. I am a Civil War buff, so the opportunity to dig relics is always very exciting for me.

I stopped metal detecting twelve years ago, when my son was born. It did not seem right leaving my wife to play in the woods of Dixie. This is also when I became a stay at home dad, and ended my career as a librarian. Being the one who knew how to cook, clean, etc., I was the obvious choice.

Four years later my daughter was born. At that time we needed extra funds, so I sold my metal detector. I did not think at the time that I would be able to get back into the hobby.

So, a few weeks ago the kids asked to see the artifacts I had recovered, and I was all too happy to bring them out. They expressed interest in metal detecting, and I thought “BINGO.” So now, I am officially back in the hobby, having just purchased a new metal detector for myself (MXT-300), which will arrive Thursday.

I have already started researching our area of Ohio to see what historical sites might be around (very few). It seems most folks where I live coin hunt…

My goal is to meet some guys from West Virginia, as this is pretty close to me. There are many Civil War sites there, and I have researched a few already, but it is always more fun to hunt with others.

If anyone is interested in sharing a hunt, please contact me.

Hopefully I can contribute here, and make some new friends.

Robert in Ohio

Hey Robert welcome to the site! Very glad you dropped by! The MXT is a sweet machine and will for sure find the relics, good luck with it, Beale.

Welcome Robert...
I like you had always wanted to metal detect ever since I was a kid. The 70's were a rough time to grow up in Chicago with blue collar parents. So I was just happy being outside in a safe environment. Fast forward to current times, and having just retired from the Marines a few years ago and my teenage kids wanting to spend 'less' family time, I took the plunge and got me a decent detector. I have managed to get out a few hours on the weekend and since Im in Florida and we really don't have a winter per say, its game on. Enjoy your family time they will grow up so fast...

Rick
