Default Saying hello from Chicago burbs.

A few guys I work with are into the hobby. They have talked me into detecting. Ive been looking at a Fisher F4. Ive also been looking at a pin pointer but i'm not sure which one. I would love to hear some of your opinions for a beginner. I'll most likely be coining and looking for jewelery. Maybe hit a beach once in a while. I am close to a lot of farm land and wooded areas.
Thanks

Your buds will probably show you some places to go, but for a quick fix hit the tot lots! Depending what burb you are in though they may be wiped out, and not by me! I've gone to a few burbs and am lucky to find more than 10 coins in a playground. I blame your MD buddies

Hi, Mike and welcome to TQ! The most important thing you can do is to research the detectors that are within your budget. There are reviews available in our Metal Detector Review area to consider.

There are also individual forums in TQ for manufacturers where you can get additional information about the model you are interested in.

It is improtant to match the abilitities of the detector to the type of hunting you want to do. If you plan on hunting in the water, that requires a waterproof detector. If you are looking for coins only, that narows it down. If you want to look for gold nuggets, that's yet nother situation. If you have any physical limitations, that plays in to it.

A good initial assessment of your needs will help to guide you. Once you are pretty sure what your needs are, then talk to another expereinced hunter you know or talk to a dealer. They know how each machine will adapt to your partiicular needs.

Fisher is a manufacturer of quality machines. They would not be around as long as they have been if they weren't.
