Hi Leslie and welcome to TQ. I'm from Chester County also (Caln Township). Never tried gem hunting though but will take you up on detecting someday!

Hi Leslie,
I can help. You want to try Tuscarora Lapidary Society. Tuscarora Lapidary Society
They hold their public meetings in Springfield Township Bldg. 50 Powell Rd. in Delaware County. Next meeting is tomorrow (Wednesday) at 8PM. Just show up and people will be glad to talk to you. I went to an open house and thought it was pretty cool. They are based a block from the courthouse in Media but rumor has it they could be moving to the Church Farm School on Rt. 30 near Exton. They have gem cutting, metal working and wire wrapping classes if you interested. If they move, I am going to try faceting.
I have been to NC for mining. I did Sheffield and Emerald Hollow for rubies, emeralds and sapphires. Still have to work for a living but had fun and came home with pounds of cool rocks to cut. Feel free to send me a message if you need anything.
