Red face New guy excited as heck to get started

My name is Chris, I live in Lookout Valley, TN (AKA Tiftonia) I am about a mile from the foot of Lookout MTN, As some of you Civil war buffs know, that was a great battle here in my own back yard. What I need to know is what do I need to buy...Gosh so many models to choose from, and I have Zero, zip, nadda knowledge of this type of challenge.

I kinda know the basics like 1) ask Permission, 2) Leave Nature as you find it, 3) Collect and dispose of all found trash 4) Be kind to your fellow man on here. But I need to know everything, I have my own home to check out, used to be covered by a small pond long ago.....and have access to one of the oldest homes here 110 years I think, so the finds could be great.

Any help would be fantastic.

You'll hear alot of TQ'ers tell you to get the Ace 250. It seems like a great machine.

Happy Hunting!

Hey chris welcome to the site! Glad you are on! You are for sure in a history rich area to hunt. I am guessing you are wanting to relic hunt first with coinshooting as a go to? What is your budget, do you want or need a visual ID?

IMO I would call one of our sponsors. Chat for a while and see what they recomend, good luck to you, Beale.

Hi, Chris and welcome to TQ! Like Buster sez, tell us what you want to spend and we can give you some ideas to think about. In the meanwhile, look in our Metal Detecting Tips section for some great info for people who are new to the hobby and ask anything that comes to mind.
