Default finding sites

hi I am fairly new to this hobby but i have a friend who has been doing it for a while. I found that you can get old plat maps of your county and the just look for where old houses were or are still standing. We have a map from 1876 and ity has helped us find a lot of house sites that are just in the middle of nowhere. some you can still see the foundation. Other wise a lot of old farmhouses used to have outhouses and in most case you can ask the landowner and they can tell you exactly where it was. Most people are very friendly when you talk to them and they will give you a lot of information of old house or building sites. The best source and most reliable is the locals of the town.

i hope this helps
later

by the way i am from the Fond du Lac area.

GeneralStukov,

I am in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Take a look at a couple links below.

Historical Maps:

http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/wisconsin.html

http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/reference/maps/

This one you can spend quite a bit of time at. Look here first:

The links below have more to do with prospecting in Wisconsin:

Hope this helps and good luck.

Eric

Good morning General....................I'm just up the road a piece from you. Maybe we'll bump in to each other after the ground thaws.

Hey there. I am next door in Minnesota. Currently living in St.Paul, but moving to New Brighton within a month or so. I do not have a MD yet but once I do I would love to hook up with some people to go MDing with.

Thumbs up SW Wisconsin

I'm in a geographical wonder, it takes me just about 45 minutes to get to anywhere down here, be it Dubuque IA or Platteville Wisconsin, of even Warren Illinois. I know Wisconsin is primo detecting grounds. Burlington wisconsin... isn't that a town along the Fox River? I would seriously check those banks. The Fox running from the Wisconsin River all the way up to Green Bay, Indians and later explorers from Europe used that route extensively... you may find something worth keeping.
Don't forget about checking for former parks, and schools on those plat maps of your area. Good Hunting.
