Default sluice box

well i finally got my sluice box yesterday. we went to a garage sale and not 5 minutes into it i saw the box laying there on the ground...beckoning to me...."take me home and i'll help you find what you're after." so i gave up my 40 dollars and took it home, set it up in the backyard and ran some back alley material through it to get some practice in. the thing works great so today i'm gonna go up to that claim i mentioned a few weeks ago and bring home a couple buckets of creek material to run through it. this is so fun!

Hey Schoser,

What Brand/Model did you get? If no ID, post a picture.

Default brand

it's a Keene(sorry no pic yet) it's the kind you set up with a 3 inch hose that you run upstream for the water. it's about 4 feet long by 10 inches wide , i'd say. new it was around a couple hundred dollars .

Hey Schoser,

What you have is an older style dredge sluice setup. It will take more stuff to get it to run right...such as flexible suction and pressure hoses, engine/pump combo, foot valve, suction nozzle, pontoons or a stand for the sluice to rest on, which adds up to $$$$ and time putting it together. This could be the start of a project for you.

For value, you really got a good deal. If you are just looking to just have a regular sluice box to use, I'd sell it....keep the profit to buy a regular sluice and some prospecting equipment (pans, classifier, snuffer bottle, gold vials, etc.) to go with it. Garrett, makes in my opinion, probably the best starter kit for newbies to prospecting. You can pick up that kit in the $29 dollar range or so just about anywhere.

I'm not sure how much prospecting you have done, but learning to pan is the first and most basic thing you need to start with and build from there.
