Default Prospecting Detector Question!

I will be purchasing my first detector and need some guidance! I live in the Motherlode area of Northern California. I also intend to make an occcasional prospecting trip to the deserts of Nevada and Arizona. I will be using my detector primarily for gold detecting. However, it would be nice to have the capability for occasionally coinshooting. The ground conditions here are primarily very mineralized with a lot of hot rocks.

My question is: With a budget of about $2,000.00, what would be my best bet for a detector? Would a Minlabe SD detector be a wise or necessary investment? Or could I get by with a good VLF detector, such as the White's GMT or MInelab X-Terra 70? All suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

I think you would probably be wise to talk to the TQ sponsers, they are listed on the forums page. Good Luck

Welcome to the site findgold! Glad you dropped in! Hope you stay a while.

I would ask the sponsors for sure on this one. I know both the X-Terra 70 and MXT can and do find gold. Are they your best choice? With your budget you can get what you want pretty much. Good luck on it, Beale.

i've heard good things about minelabs for prospecting...also the white's GMT and the DFX/MXT are good if you want to both prospect and relic/coin hunt.
