Default Black sand

I dusted the ol pan off this weekend and hit the crik for a while. I'm new to panning, so I'm just experimenting now. I did'nt find any shiney goodies, But had plenty of black sand. I've heard that that's a good indicator, But not sure why? What is the relationship with the gold and black sand?

The black sand is a heavier material, it tends to concentrate in the streams in certain spots, gold is also likely to concentrate in these same spots, because it is heavy also. Where you find black sand, you may find gold, not always though. Where you find gold, you almost always will find black sand though. Rich.

Default black sand

all most always were you find black sand ,you find gold , it is an good indactor.but not always?you screen down to window screen size, put about 1/2 gal. in 1gal. jar.take 2blue tablets, the kind from toilet bowls.disavale in water put in jar. ps.< dangerous////// 10 times stronger then house hold bleach it will burn skin>soak 2 or 3 days sturing wance a day.up to 1 week, drain off & rince cold water. spried out on old cookie sheet, dry in sun. out side on grill rost black sand , wile hot put in cold water ,this will crack and release find gold if any.put small amount in gold pan,pan it slowly. to check for gold. it takes time but on long cold winter nights //works for me. griz

Default B;ack sand

I just decided to get back into the show. In alluvial gold black sand is your guide and friend/enemy! Black sand is a indicator like quartz, Iron, pyrite, Copper, lead, Galena! One time a friend and I ran a sluice for about four days. We used a gold wheel to clean up the concentrates. We had a pile of black sands close to the clean up and this guy came up checking out how we had fared. We told him a bunch of lies and only showed him the crumbs. He asked if we wanted the back sand! No what for and back to work we went. Next thing we know he is there with a couple of buckets and shoveling it up. I asked, What you doing? He said he had a place in El Paso that gave him $7.00 a bucket for it! They was extracting some Rare Earths from it! I have no imaginations of how many bucket's I have left behind. I still can't find out who he was selling it to!
