Default Need Help with Father's Day Gift!

My dad loves watching the treasure hunting programs on TV and learning stuff about old mines and such. I thought for father's day this year maybe I'd get him some dirt to pan. I don't know where to get the best dirt so I thought maybe some of you could help with suggestions. My dad's sort of cynical about things so I sure don't want it to be a disappointment.

I've ordered the book about panning for gold in the midwest and thought I'd get some dirt and maybe a pan to go with it. Guess I need a suggestion for a pan too. Anything else I will want/need to include?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks, dugday! I talked it over with my sister and she thinks it's a good idea I've ordered him a kit that has a pan with it. The bad thing is that the order should be here on Wed and it's going to be an awful temptation to not try it out myself! Maybe I'll have to hide it from myself.

Don't forget where you hid it, for when it's time to wrap it up and give it away you won't be able to do it................ LOL

Thanks everyone! My dad is extremely hard to buy for and he'll complain that we got him anything at all ("you kids don't need to spend your money on me!") but I think he'll like it. If he does, he might get dirt for Christmas too!! lol

Now, if I can only remember where I saw that thread where someone had a keychain with their gold hidden in it. I think it was for geocaching. Off to do a search!
