Reminds me of the time I took a couple of those fake lottery tickets and gave them to my mom and her cousin, boy you should have seen their faces, one was for 1000 and the other was for 10,000....I am waiting to see what they have burried in their yards for me!!!!

HH to ya Rip!!!

Default Most likely Iron Pyrite

I spent many happy years with my grandfather and his rocks, he was a hard rock miner of the old school. I had lots of iron pyrite pieces and I believe what I see here is just that. I do know that in general where iron pyrite is plentiful so is the gold, in general that is. You should be spotting a fair amount of quartz in the same area also.

Take your pocket knife and try to cut the gold. If it is pyrites it will shatter and crumble. If you just leave a mark in the gold, you probably have the real thing.

Just now getting caught up on reading this post...Thanks for all the information...I found more on a past hunt...I will let you all know the outcome of the pocket knife trick....I don't think it is gold...When you look at it at different angles or in different light...it almost has a silver look to it???????

Just did the pocket knife trick and it is hard as a rock and did break a piece off...with a little flaking like glitter... Well maybe next time!!!

I see some good harmless fun in the future!!!!

Thanks for the comments

Pat

It has the gold coloring, my pictures may not give the true color??? But I am posting pics...I read one of the posts below and I took a straight pen to it, I pressed inward, couldn't tell if I was making any progress, so I started scraping and after about 4 or 5 scrapes I did notice a few specks came loose....So I am not sure what this is...I guess fools gold....No nothing about minerals...Was wondering if fools gold can be picked up with a detector????

Any ideas what I have??????
