Default I use em

I am using a Garrett Ace 250 and have used rechargables in it since it was new with no problems. I am just using a cheap 2500 mah batteries and they pretty much will last me all day of metal detecting.

BJ, a lot depends on what kind of rechargeable battery you will be using. The most common (and least expensive) are Nickel-Cadium. They run a little less voltage than alkaline. (1.2 versus 1.5 volts) I would thing that most detectors will be able to use them without much of a problem. I have heard that they may affect the strength of a signal but I cannot say that is the case. I ran them in my RC boat and still got good distance out of them. They tend to die-off slower while alkalines drop-off fairly quickly when they die.

The most important thing is to understand the dos and don'ts of how to use them. There also are NiMH batteries which are a bit more $.

There is a lot of good info on the internet about how to use and treat Ni-Cads.

Good luck!

I think it depends on what kind of batteries your detector uses. I would recomend AA recharageables to almost every who owns a detector that uses AA type batteries since you can buy recharageables that have more capacity than alkaline batteries. If your detector uses 9 volt batteries, recharageables just don't last near as long, I can get 22-24 hours of use in my MD from a set of Duracell ultra life 9 volt batteries . The rechargeable 9 volt batteries I have nickel metal(Ni-MH) only last on adverage 5-6 hours and the last 30 mins of use I know I am getting a less depth detecting. I am just lazy and don't like to have to change out 9 volts in the middle of my hunting.

Default hi ,oregon

i use 3 9v batt. in my dect. i buy my batt. from the dollar store for 1 dollar for 2 batt. for 1.5 dollars i average 10 to 15 times my cost ,im happy with that average. i cant do that kind of average cost wise with copper tops or anything else. i dont notice any loss of depth or signal strenth.i md almost every day,so cost is very import. to me as i am on s.s. good hunting

I've always been a copper top kinda gal so I buy Duracells unless there are none to be found. But I have wondered how the economy batteries compare to the name brands.

Thumbs up

ah the duracells are good, i think the biggest part of batteries is how long they been sitting on the shelf.....seems like some give you good mding time and then some don't seem to give you the hours...who knows!!!!

So janice did you ditch the wedding??? did you find anything good???? girl thats a tough one....LOL....dressed up, good meal, a couple cool sodas from miller brewing, crank up the music and alittle dancing, another cool soda, one more dance, Brooks and Dunn- " neon moon " or George strait...belt buckle to belt buckle, another soda, LOL......Yahoooooo you got a wedding!!!!!! I don't know i think i would have hung the MD up for a night....
