Default Newbie--Which detector?-Iron mines

Hey all,

I am looking for some advice and this forum seemed like the best place to find it. I want to pick up the hobby of metal detecting but i am not sure what kind of detector to buy.
--I'm willing to spend up to $1000 (giver or take).
--The area I'm in is full of old iron mines.
--My main target would be coins.

Not that i would be detecting directly over the mines but there's iron ore all over the place around here. What detectors should i consider purchasing considering my newbie status, the area I'll be covering and my target? Which detector would have the best discrimination for such an area? I appreciate any suggestions you guys might have.

Thanks, Mike.

Default lots of dough

thats a lot of green dead presidents to spend to find more silver dead presidents. your best bet is talking to one of our sponsors. i personaly recomend a whites but thehre are a lot off good machines out there and our sponsors will be able to point you in the right direction. of course they wanna make a sell but these are guys who detect themselves and they want you find stuff to. and since they carry different brands they recomend the best machine for your individual stuation. good luck and happy hunting

Hello Mike and welcome to TQ. Mike you might want to take a look at the Tesoro Vaquero. I wouldn't get too anxious and spend big bucks when you probably don't need to. The Vaquero is a very easy to setup and use detector which can do several types of detecting especially coins. But if I can help you out in purchasing a detector that will fit your own needs PM me or call and we can talk further. I sell the Vaquero for 424.95. Ok I hope I can be of service and God Bless Mike!

Welcome to TQ, Mike. The only thing that I know is that just because you spend a whole bunch of money doesn't mean you have the best machine. Our sponsers here will stear you in the right direction and that doesn't mean their wallets. They won't just sell you something to make the money. They want you to get the best out of this great hobby and if that means that you only spend $300 or $400 they're happier if you are.

You're gonna love detecting and you'll love this site just as much.
