Default Hopefully simple questions for you all...

I keep reading about low tones. What exactly is it that causes these low tones? Is it the depth of the target? Is it the type of metal? Or a combination of both? Just trying to get a handle on my understanding any help would be appreciated.

Hi ExNavy, the low tones are telling you that your detecting a low conductive metal. Also ferrous objects give a low tone. And after you go beyond a certain depth the detector may have trouble giving you the correct tone or ID. Depending on the type of ground you have will determine depth too. You will want to dig all targets until you are almost one with your detector. Gold rings and jewelry are also low conductors. Ok I hope this is a help to you and if I can help you even more just give a call ENG. God Bless and take care.
