That is cool Riki! I try to teach my kids about the animals and nature and how to respect nature and they just love it....glad to know there are people out there who would allow someone to md on their land.

Hey exNavy: How old are your kids? I used to love taking mine out when they were little (they're 15 and 16 now) and watching the wonder in their faces as we looked for pretty rocks, watched butterflies and birds, picked berries, whatever. Children are an amazing gift.

As for md'ing on my property..why not? I may have paid for the privilege to use it...but in my eyes I'm just the caretaker, if that makes sense...and I certainly don't own the treasures which may be buried beneath the soil.

But don't think I'd let just anyone go roaming and digging around here...they'd have to pass inspection first

My son is 3 on the 28th Aug, my twin daughters are 4 will be 5 in december...I also have a stepdaughter who is 11...If I owned any real land other than this little plot around my house, I would keep a close eye on who I let md on it...definitely have to be careful.
My kids sometimes follow me around and watch when we go to the park, but they love the mountains and the parks, especially Shenandoah where they can see the bears and deer. One of the twins actually made me proud...I had been teaching them how to react when they see snakes, we were at the park about a month ago, and a black rat snake was slithering around the play equipment, my daughter stopped dead still and cried 'snake' really loud, people around her just stopped and looked. I was actually md'ing while the wife was watching the kids.

Sending you two birthday wishes... give one to your son on the 28th...and keep one as spare to give to your daughters in December!!

Good thing you've taught your daughter so well about snakes. My nephew was bitten in the foot by a copperhead several weeks ago and he's been in and out of hospital ever since, is in excrutiating pain, and still doesn't know if his foot is going to get better.

I notice you're in VA...I have family in Falls Church, Manassas, and Roanoke. We'll probably be visiting the Falls Church and Roanoke families soon.

Well thank you! I will be sure to pass those wishes along. They will appreciate it.

A copperhead. That is painful. I have come so close on several occasions to being bitten. I stepped over a copperhead once, the dog got to the snake before the snake got me...I was told that I played with a rattler when i was younger, I sat down beside a cottonmouth on the river bank one day...he was poised to strike when I realized what I had done. Hope your nephew gets better. I know it has to hurt! best wishes to him.

We live in Ashburn, its down route 7 from Tyson's Corner, we are actually closer to Manassas than Falls Church. About a 20 min drive to Manassas that would be a wonderful place to do some md'ing. But a lot of things are so protected in that area, understandably with all the battles that have taken place there.

Default Fields

Riki, If those old fields have been tended, worked and plowed over the years....YOU MAY BE AMAZED at what they hold. I would look them over really good!

Do you wear a sign which says " I love danger, snakes come find me?"

Wink open fields

The advantage in hunting farmed fields is that they are plowed which brings new material to the surface each season. This seemingly replenishment of items can make those deep targets accesable.

If someone has been through the land (and we may not know it ever happened) there is likely to be something lost.
