I have an x-1 and a DetectorPro pocket model. They both are excellent probes. The DetectorPro goes a little deeper than the X-1, but not much deeper.
The X-1 is dedicated to the Explorer II so it is a lot handier to use than the DetectorPro, which can be used with any detector.
I do not think the hobby would be as enjoyable (for me) without a probe, so as long as I can afford one I'll keep one in my hunting bag.

And it sure does keep you from hitting the coing with your digging tool (usually)

Hey Greg, If you haven't purchased a probe already. I highly recomend the X-1 inline probe from Sun Ray. The difference is, it makes the same sounds as your Mine Lab does, and you hear it through your headphones. On a good target like silver, It will sounds off with a nice high silver sound. On a bad target it will sound off in lower tones. It can locate targets up to 1- 4 inches utilizing manual setting on your Explorer and 1-3 in manual settings. Everone in Michigan I know that is using an Explorer II fom Mine Lab has one. They utilize the detectors power source so the only Batteries you have to ever change, are the ones in your detector. It's realy a must if you have an Explorer II. Just my 2 cents worth.
