It is definitely brass, with "GPH" scripted on the front, the shank is brass and appeared to have some gold plating on the back of the button and around the shank. "Made in England" is stamped on the back, forming a half circle around the shank. No dates, no other writing can be found.
It was found on old farm land, settled in the 1700's, maybe earlier. Not saying the button is that old. I spent about four hours last night searching with no luck. Any help or if anyone has any ideas would be much appreciated. I updated the front pic of the button..you can now make out the "GP" of the "GPH". The "H" is still blurred. I soaked it in warm soapy water for a while, got some of the dirt off. Last edited by exnavyguy; 09-03-2007 at 04:29 PM. |
