Default Part of a SILVER bar found in PA in 1977?

Hi all,
I was reading the Ghost Towns in Pennsylvania forum and looking at Warren County. The post states that there was a 2 lb. piece of a silver bar (believed to be part of a larger cache') found in the woods near Sheffield. Does anyone know the resource that was used to find this information? I have searched the internet and newspaper archives and come up empty-handed, time after time. If anyone knows where this story originated or has a link to an article, it would be greatly appreciated. If there is a cache' out there, I have a few ideas where to look, as I've spent a lot of time traipsing through the woods around there. I guess I'm just looking to verify the story before I start spending most of my free time hiking all over.

That information came out of a series of books called the United States Treasure Atlas. The authors name was Thomas P. Terry and his address was Onalaska, Wisconsin. The information was in Volume number 8 and was printed in 1985. Not sure if Mr. Terry still writes any books but maybe you could Google him and see if you can contact him and discuss his sources of information. Hope this helps a little.

Thanks Bill,
I Googled him, and I think my best bet is to get a set of his atlases off eBay. I may take a look around in a few places that are likely hiding spots, in my opinion. (Not that my opinion's worth all that much, but who knows, I might get lucky.) Not much has really changed in that area, since the last ice age, so I'm guessing it may be hidden on, under, or near glacial rock formations, as they would be permanent markers.

I may take a hike out there this coming Sunday and scout one area. I'll keep you posted... by the way, if I just disappear from the forum... well, I think you'll all understand that I'll be relaxing on my newly-purchased island. Just kidding... I'd let you all know and cut in the ones who've helped.

Good luck to you...if it's still there, someone will find it - why not you?
