Default When does a find become a Relic?

This may be a silly question, but when does this occur? I am really just wondering about this. I mean is a old token, or old ring a relic? I guess I am just curious.

I see pictures of CW stuff, etc as relics. So how do you know, Beale.

It seem as if things I played with as a child is now a relic but I really don't know what the cut off date is for it to be considered a relic, sorry I can't answer your question. Have a great day and the best of luck......Richard

That's a good question? I would think if they stopped making it, it becomes an antuiqe? And if it's so outdated as to be a museum piece, It's a relic? Maybe like a model a ford is an antuiqe, and a covered wagon is a relic? I dont know?

What's the difference between a collectible and a relic would most likely be age related and based on generational timelines in 30 year increments. Not sure of the demarcation timeline. HH Bill

I found this on Encarta, kinda interesting.

rel·ic [ réllik ] (plural rel·ics)

noun Definition:

1. old thing surviving from past: something that has survived from a long time ago, often a part of something old that has remained when the rest of it has decayed or been destroyed

2. old custom: a tradition, practice, or rule that dates from some time in the past, especially one that is considered out of date or inappropriate at the present time

3. keepsake: something that is kept for its interesting associations, e.g. with somebody famous or with a historic event

4. religion something from deceased holy person: something that is kept and venerated because it once belonged to a saint, martyr, or religious leader, especially a part of his or her body

[13th century. Via Old French relique< Latin reliquiae "remains" (particularly of a dead saint), plural of reliquus "remaining"]

Good One Gizmo. Sounds like something Boobie would say, In fact if I remember right He said that whenever he goes Relic Hunting, He just looks in the mirror.

My wife found me about 11 years ago...I believe I qualified as a relic at that time! ...she, of course, was classified as a treasure....
