Default Homesite, Going to need help!!!!

OK folks while doing my reseach on a old road in my area, I found a very old homesite, all that is left of it is the chimmy stack and the celler hole. This will be my first try @ doing one of these. How should I attack it & where should I start out.

TY

Hey there Ty,Sounds like a great spot.First thing ya do is get permission from the landowner then hit every square inch of er ! I like to start in the front yard then the back, all around any big trees,Try and picture it as it may have looked in the past and then think about were people would have been the most.Look for somewere that could have been used as a clothes line or garden area.Mabey one of the trees has a limb that would have been a good spot for a swing. Also you might want to look for the outhouse.Always be on the lookout for old wells ! I have found many open and hidden wells and although the area around a well can be a good place to look they can also be very dangerous ! Best of luck !

Hey Ty, congratulations on the find (homesite), there's not much that I can add, except take your time and do a small area at a time, depending on the trash, adjust your disc. then go over it again.

Good warning from rip on a well hole....Be careful!

I've tried a couple of these, but never with much time to really work them. What you are likely to find is lots of rusty old iron nails, so go slowly and pay close attention to what your detector is telling you. Expect to take a lot of time to find much, but you'll be rewarded with what you do find. Good luck!

Nice job on the research part. Look at the structure(whats left) and try to picture what the yard layout was. Front, back sides, where the front door may have been located. Was there a walkway to it. Where they might have hung clothes to dry. Good luck and I am looking forward to seeing the results. Good luck and have fun with that.

Very nice spot and it sounds like ya have slot to do before ya can be swingin but it will pay off. Pretty much what everyone else has told you and when your around those trees, look up and see if you might spot a nail sticking out of a branch pointing straight down. Sometimes folks way back would bury thier money & stuff at the base of a tree, then put a nail with a small string hanging down as a marker for their stash. the string is usually gone but if you find a nail like that its a good sign that a possible cache could be there for you. Also run your detector up and around the tree trunk, Many times coinshave been found stashed in the tree itself.
Hope ya make some really nice finds.

Good Luck & HH.
The TINMAN
