Default Identification Marks on Jewelry

I spent some time tonight looking at some of the finds I have found since I have started metal detecting a year ago. On the only ring I found there is a mark that says "21R" on it. It is on the outside of the ring at the "bottom" There are no other markings on it. Does anyone know what "21R" stands for?

Maybe it was the person's 21st Ring? Sorry I can't help ya. It's on the outside of the ring, though? Weird.

My wife sold jewelry for a number of years and she said she never saw a marking like that. Some manufactures will place a identification marking somewhere on the item. Maybe thats what this is. Otherwise maybe is was something the owner had placed on the ring. Sorry its not the answer you are probably looking for but maybe it helps a little. Good luck finding any other info. Bill

2 ideas: I once found a Russian ring that was marked on the outside of the band. Are you sure it is not white gold? I found a 21K ring once from the Middle East where 21K is popular. Could the R be a K?

This ring may have had gold plating, but whatever was on the outside of the ring is now peeling off. I just looked again at the marking and I am sure it has 21R on it. It was found in some wooded area near where we were camping last Thanksgiving Day.
