Gemstone hunting
I was curious if anyone here hunted for gemstones.....If yes, what kind and where, please?

I have here in Georgia. Mostly in our creek. We found one Beryl crystal and then I found an awesome chunk of goldish stone that I forget what it is but it is filled with garnets.

I'd like to try hunting gemstones...but I'll need to find someone who actually knows what to look for to go along with me!

I have done some at those pay mines? You know you buy a bag of stuff and it has stones in it. Take it to the sluce and do your hunt. My youngest son found a very nice emerald, that my wife had made into a necklace, Beale.

The Travel Channel has been running Cash and Treasure shows lately. They have 3 or so episodes on pay-gem-mining in the Carolinas, Montana, Utah and Arizona. They were finding some great stuff, rubies, emeralds, opals etc. All the places did the buckets or bags and some let you go in the pit with a pick axe for a higher fee. They were all fairly reasonable fees and I think most had a guarantee on finding something.
The wife is all ready to go… HH-

Gemstones
I hunt them all the time here in N.C. Hidenite,N.C., Jefferson, N.C., Cherokee,N.C.,Maggie Valley,N.C.,Hendersonville and a few other places.
Amethyst, Aventurine, Sodalite, Ruby's, Emeralds,Topaz and a few other specimen's. LOT'S OF FUN !

There is a place in North Carolina. I think the town is Franklin. My bud at work has been up there and found some stuff. They made it into jewelry later on. Plan to go up that way with my wife to see about all of this. Maybe in the summer time.... Buster....
